Audiofile update Sample Manager with a “Myriad” of improvements
Do you spend hours converting files from either clients and collaborators, or for delivery, and less time being creative? Sometimes only certain files can be converted and managed within your DAW. Although this works, you’re probably not using your time efficiently. Some pro’s have been using Sample Manager for a few years, and now might be the time to join the party. With this significant update comes the new name “Myriad”, and a special introductory price.
I haven’t owned the previous incarnation of Myriad (once called Sample Manager) myself, partly because it’s unusual for me to do much in the way of batch processing or file conversion. However, the mastering engineer who I’ve been using for most of my career (www.lowlandmasters.com) has been a huge fan and a heavy user. Not only does he like the simplicity of the software, but like many swears by its conversion algorithms. If he – alongside other well-respected professionals – says so, it must be good! Many mastering engineers will choose to convert files inside this application instead of their own DAW’s for example.
Audiofile are striving to keep quality at the forefront of their software, probably because it’s co-designed by industry professionals in the US. For Myriad, they have partnered with audio DSP developers Goodhertz for the use of their mastering-grade audio sample rate converter and dither algorithms. Beyond this, there are several workflow improvements and a re-designed UI which to me looks clear and simple to use.
Myriad supports OS X 10.9 Mavericks, 10.10 Yosemite and 10.11 El Capitan. Unfortunately Windows users aren’t catered for. However, the normal retail price will be 99.99 USD, but a special introductory price is available now at 79.99 USD. If you’re looking for a time-saving option without cutting corners in terms of quality, then take a look.
