Audiotonix acquires Slate Digital in a diversification move
UK multinational Audiotonix acquires Slate Digital to add to its arsenal, alongside Allen & Heath, Calrec, DiGiCo, DiGiGrid, KLANG:technologies, Solid State Logic, and Sound Devices.
Since its formation in 2008, Slate Digital has defined itself as a unique brand offering not only software but hardware-integrated solutions as well. Initially, founders Steven Slate and Fabrice Gabriel built a stellar reputation both in music and post-production with plug-ins like Steven Slate Drums and later, the Slate Digital F-GX.
However, Slate Digital truly found its niche with its specialized range of hardware products equipped with software-controlled modeling capabilities. Revolutionary products like the VMS microphones and VMS-ONE preamp offer a huge amount of creative value at a considerably more affordable price than the mics and preamps the software is emulating.
Audiotonix acquires Slate Digital: What will this move mean for customers?
Well, if it wasn’t already, the level of resources available to Slate Digital product development has now entered the big league. The backing of Audiotonix will allow Slate to target multiple market sectors simultaneously – the same way SSL has in recent years. This means we could see both entry-level and more high-end Slate Digital products in the future, which is exciting for both the user and the industry as a whole.
Will Slate Digital get rid of the All-Access Pass subscriber model in the future? We certainly hope so. Users remain divided over the implementation of subscription-based services in pro-audio, and for good reason. In the meantime, we’re certainly looking forward to what this merger will bring in terms of new technology for music and audio production. Who knows what new products could be around the corner?
