Austrian Audio has announced the Hi-X60 headphones. As a closed-back variant of the Hi-X65 studio reference model, the Hi-X60 are designed for mixing and mastering, but also for recording and even FOH work.

After releasing the Hi-X65 studio reference headphones earlier this year, Austrian Audio is now following up with a closed-back version. As such, the Hi-X60 is designed to deliver the sound quality of the Hi-X65, while providing increased isolation for loud environments or recording applications.

The headphones are built around the same 44 mm high-excursion drivers as the Hi-X65. The manufacturer says that these deliver a transparent, linear and open sound stage and low distortion, especially at low frequencies. They also say that the drivers’ low moving mass ensures a quick and accurate transient response while reducing unwanted resonance. The headphones’ impedance of 25 ohms means that they should be pretty versatile for use with a wide variety of sources.

According to Austrian Audio, the Hi-X60 provides a high degree of passive noise suppression for accurate and hearing-friendly listening, even in loud environments. During tracking, the closed-back isolation means less leakage into the microphone, while providing the artist with a coherent signal.

With contact points made of soft memory foam and a headband designed to relieve pressure on the head, the Hi-X60 should provide a high level of comfort for extended sessions. The underlying structure features an all-metal construction for extended durability. The foldable headphones come with two detachable cables, 3 m and 1.2 m in length.
