Beetronics Larva: Magic Morphing Phaser for Endless Vibes
A phaser from the bee hive!
Finally a phaser from the bee hive! The Beetronics Larva Morphing Phaser is a 6-stage phaser with a twist. The pedal is all analogue, all bee-themed and can morph between two phaser settings.
Beetronics Larva Morphing Phaser: It’s just a Phase
When it comes to modulation effects (i.e. phaser, flanger, chorus, and tremolo), it’s a bit like with distortion pedals these days: whether overdrive, distortion, or fuzz. There are rarely any genuinely new products, but occasionally many small manufacturers dare to try small changes to the long-standing effects. Enter Beetronics Larva.
At first glance, this so-called Morphing Phaser seems pretty standard. You know, the kind of effect you need for funk, seventies vibes, or Daft Punk. There were no video or sound samples before the release, but as a fully analogue 6-stage phaser the pedal should offer a decent range of sounds, from subtle blurring and wobbling to Uni-Vibe-esque effects and completely alienated sounds.
What’s special about Larva is that it contains two phasers that you can switch between and also morph. The transitions between a more gentle phaser setting on phaser 1 and a much more intense one for phaser 2 can be used to create extremely space-like effects.
Ramp, Morph, and Vibee
But first things first. The phasers’ speed is set using the two rate pots, while the respective intensity is set using the depth controls. The preamp dial adjusts the input level, and the master sets the output level. According to Beetronics, the Larva features an excellent preamp with loads of analogue warmth to it.
Next, the Ramp control sets the speed at which the transition from phaser 1 to phaser 2 occurs. Below that, the Shape switch determines how the transition occurs. Whether it a simple one-way ramp from phaser 1 to phaser 2, a back-and-forth between phaser 1 to phaser , or a sudden jump back from phaser 2 to phaser 1.
The actual morphing is triggered by holding the tap tempo foot switch. The pedal will then morph between the settings of phaser 1 and phaser 2. If you want to switch between the two phaser settings without a transition, set the rate to 0. Then, hitting tap tempo will switch between the two. And if the intensity of the phasers is not enough for you, you can increase it using the reso pot.
The second switch on the right lets you set the Beetronics Larva to preamp, phaser or vibe mode.
