Beetronics Seabee Harmochorus: Reinventing the chorus
Blending an analogue heart with digital control
Beetronics Seabee is a multi-chorus pedal that delivers the finest analogue chorus sounds based on a bucket chain circuit. This new pedal goes a few steps further compared to standard chorus effects. Via a digital control of the delay time of the chorus, Beetronics has created the Harmochorus which according to the press release, offers pitch-shifting modulation never before heard, opening up completely new possibilities.
Seabee Harmochorus
The Beetronics Seabee Harmochorus looks stunning and has a lot of attention to detail in the overall design aesthetic. As ever with this brand they go the extra mile in terms of design, circuit board layout and overall quality.
Chorus Modes
Three chorus modes provide the classic, rich chorus and vibe sounds that we all know and love. Each mode offers the possibility to control the effect in different ways. So you can vary between two different speeds and/or modulation intensities, increase the intensity from zero to maximum or choose a longer delay time for a whole new sound spectrum.
Novel Harmochorus
According to the manufacturer, the three Harmochorus modes open up a new, unique, inspiring approach to the effect. The best way to explain it is:
“Clean sounds like an angelic choir. But if you combine it with some distortion, a swarm of killer bees that create dangerous pitch modulations will haunt you!”
So so. You can choose from two different pitches and speeds, as well as from a combination of twelve chords and twelve different arpeggio patterns or simply choose one of the more random sound patterns.
Chorus has Roto, Depth and Sting settings, and Harmo has Dual, Arp and Mad.
Few controls, many possibilities
Seabee definitely seems to inspire. Behind its simple structure with only three controllers hides a variety of possibilities such as alternative controller assignments, three curve shapes, tap tempo, a 4-way tone filter, feedback control and a speed range from very slow to ultra-fast and ring modulator-like.
In addition to two stereo output options, 16 presets, complete MIDI control and inputs for expression and tap tempo, the Seabee offers four selectable input levels. This ensures that the bucket chain circuit always works optimally with a wide variety of input signals such as guitar, bass and all types of active pickups or synthesizers.
It certainly looks like a fun creative effect pedal, albeit an expensive one.
