Behringer 676: A Versatile Tube Channel Strip
A tube preamp and an FET compressor in one.
The Behringer 676 is a tube channel strip with an 1176-style compressor, ideal for recording vocals, guitars, and more in your home studio.
The Behringer / Midas axis is at it again, and this time the manufacturer has recreated the wonderful Universal Audio 6176 channel strip, a design that takes two classic pieces of gear and puts them into one rackmount chassis.
Behringer 676
The original 6176 design concept combines the microphone preamp stage from the fabled Universal Audio 610 tube console with the famous UREI 1176LN limiting amplifier. This allows you to optimize your signals with the tube gain stage on the way in for the best possible dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio, while the 1176 shaves off the peaks.
Behringer’s new 676 has been carefully put together using 12AX7/ ECC83S and 12AT7/6072 tubes as well as specially built Midas transformers for the input and output stages. Like the original 6176, the preamp and compressor sections can operate independently. Not only is there an impedance selector on the preamp, but also on the compressor.
This opens up the possibilities for you to implement the 676 in tracking as your front end, or in mixing as a channel insert in your DAW. With the tube preamp, you can add character and warmth to any sound, while the FET compressor can be used to smash drums, squeeze guitars, or shape vocals to perfection in the mix.
In addition, the preamp stage features a 2-band shelving filter section with selectable frequency points to set the range of your signal. Overall, the 676 is a useful addition to your home studio, a single input and processing box with vintage character and so many applications.

No bypass mode for the compressor? 🤔
I could be wrong, but on the ratio knob there is a BP, I believe that is the bypass setting.
