Behringer Vintage – Available now!!
After a shaky and confusing “non-launch” which Behringer claimed was an unfortunate leak, their first ever plugin synth, ‘Vintage’, is now officially available!
UPDATE: 26th April 2024
It is fair to say that Behringer’s first step into the plugin synthesizer market didn’t get off to the best of starts. Arriving unannounced a few weeks ago, there was a flurry of activity from both customers and company alike.
Servers were crashing all over the place as users scrambled to take advantage of this amazing offer. And then, it was gone! 404 pages were appearing all over the place and there was confusion everywhere. There was even an announcement form another developer that they had no part in this plugin, despite it looking very much like one of theirs!
Behringer claimed it was accidentally leaked and told us it would be here soon. Well, it’s now here, all official and with a new video to accompany it. Visit Behringer’s website to download and claim your free licence now. Let us know what you think of the plugin in the comments below!
Original Article: 8th April 2024
You have to hand it to Behringer. They do like to pull the rug out from under our feet every now and again. Last week, after much silence on their socials, they dropped the MS-5, their take on the Roland SH-5.
Today, without a word of warning, they release what appears to be the first of a series of free plugins. I say ‘Series’ because the icon for Behringer Vintage bears the title ‘Synth Suite’. What else could it mean?
Behringer Vintage
Behringer Vintage, according to their blurb, is an original virtual synthesizer with powerful oscillators, filters and LFOs modelled on the analog circuitry of vintage synthesizers. They don’t say which, specifically. And that doesn’t really matter.
I guess many people will hazard a guess at a certain Californian piece of hardware from the late 70s/early 80s simply because of the wood effect on the UI and the heatsink on the rear. This plugin must get really hot!
What it does have though is a highly commendable user interface with a nice, clear display and neatly laid out controls. There’s nothing overtly fancy here and Vintage is all the better for it. It’s also a completely scalable UI. Just drag the corner and fit it to your screen. It looks mightily impressive on my Ultra Wide display!
Under The Hood of Behringer Vintage
Behringer Vintage contains two oscillators with a hard sync function and with the typical range of waveforms; sine, square and saw with a noise and sub-oscillator thrown in for good measure. PWM of the square wave is also possible.
It’s also got a pretty handy pair of filters too. 12/24db, switchable between low, high and bandpass along with notch and formant modes. Both these filters can be overdriven too. Seems like they’ve very much thought this through. Filters can also be routed in series or parallel. Nice!
There are separate ADSR envelope generators and the dual LFOs appear to have a significant amount of grunt and capability.
Behringer Vintage: It’s FREE!!
Have I already mentioned it’s free? Behringer’s version of free means you can have it in exchange for signing up to their website and giving them your email. I don’t know many people who would object to that as it’s pretty much common practice these days.
You will also be asked to make a donation to the Playing for Change Foundation, but this is entirely optional. A Donate button is also ever-present in the Behringer Vintage GUI.
However, at the time of going to press, the Behringer website seems to be struggling to keep up with demand as I’ve been sat here for the last hour trying to get my licence code and all I get is a red-dotted spinning wheel!
Hopefully this will resolve itself soon but you can still download and install the plugin while you wait. And while we wait, we can contemplate if this plugin, and subsequent ones, might be part of the free Behringer DAW they’ve been promising us.
Exciting times indeed!
More Information
Behringer Vintage is available now by visiting the Behringer Vintage website. It is available for both Windows 10+ and macOS 10.13+ and as a VST3 and AU plugin. A standalone version is also included.

I can’t register as the submit button is greyed out.
I can’t ask them for support with this as you need to be registered to get any support.
a bit silly really isn’t it?
Same thing here except i have an account and i can’t log in…
Ditto. I’m guessing their servers got inundated by this freebie? Weirdly enough I was able to download the installation DMG, just not log in to get a license. Initially I kept getting a “wrong password” message after quite a long wait, but now the entire login page is just blank white. Try again later? 🙂
It’s because the server is being taxed. Everyone is dying to get their hands on it.
You get what you pay for 🙁
Download is still possible though. Just click on that download button. Worked for me…
Not man I don’t see that button the website was down
Just realised, I was too quick with my reply. It’s asking for registration once you open that thing for the first time… Ah well.
What’s going on, Behringer?
Good
And now the link to product page no longer works 🙂 it seems Behringer is slowly catching up on April Fools’ day 🙂
it seems to have disappeared, just says page not found.
i simply don’t see an download tab no where on here
Remember when the Behringer Swing copied the Arturia Keystep?
Does this mean they’re making their own V Collection?
Torley!!! Where have you been!? Will you ever return to posting videos to your YouTube channel?

“this plugin, and subsequent ones, might be part of the free Behringer DAW”
I’ve used Ableton’s Analog stock plugin and Vintage was strangely familiar—the feature parity is uncanny. A few minor details have been left out such as filter variations past Low/Band/High/Formant and noise on the main oscillators, but dang is this interesting.
As always with Uli, a copy … 🥹
I wonder if this is the start of their digital modelling journey; could they be creating a whole suite of soft synths etc, which not only can be used in DAWs, but also be built into future digital hardware products, a bit like Roland have done with the cloud / ACB / ZEN-Core modelling?
Yeah it seems they’ve pulled the website, downloads, everything on this. Maybe they got threatened by someone.
page not found….
Was able to register, but now the download links Are no longer available. What a bummer never got my link to fully register.also a bummer 😡
seems like barringer’s going to pull a Google get somebody all excited about a product and then shut it down before anybody gets a chance to use it
I read that demand crashed their website, I’ve been trying for two days now, finally got to the spinning red dots!
Interesting that the only mention of the Vintage on Behringer’s site is someone complaining about the licensing.
What a very Behringer situation. Interesting.
Don’t get mad people, there are TONS of excellent free plugins, this one is just another run-of-the-mill VA additive plugin, just grab whatever pop’s up first in a list of “best free synth plugin” (gearnews has multiple articles like that) and you’ll get the exact same thing without the extra hoops.
Me hardware. Me no VST. No download? Me un-arsed. Not even Behringer, not even free, make me VST. Me hardware. Where my CR78, Uli? 😎
wish to register for the freeby.
can someone give me the link to download it
Still can’t register, submit button is greyed out.
don’t give them your data, just grab any free synth online : it will sound the same without the hassle
MusicTribe is down again!
The UI is a clone of ableton Analog, made by AAS. B is gonna B. I mean it’s free so if by now you’re not completely overwhelmed with analog recreation of synths why not.
Oh… Another free vst. How exiting.
Got the download and the license! 🙂
I have had the opportunity to sit with this VST plugin for a couple hours. I have been composing and working with synths since 1985 and today work primarily with VST’s. Hands down this is THE WORST VST synth plugin I have ever heard or used. I did not find a single patch worthy of being barely usable. Although the control variables are decent, the filters sound like what a 19-year-old came up with for music class in 1991. I got rid of it, asta-la-vista Behringer. Worth $99? I need them to pay me back for my wasted 2 hours!
Sad when a plug-in is worth less than nothing:(
