Best free plug-ins this week: Hand Bells, Vos Contemporary, SP22
Ready for your weekly dose of free plug-ins? This week, we have two awesome free sound libraries for you, as well as an unconventional sample recorder / editor. Check out Hand Bells, Vos Contemporary, and SP22.
Spitfire Audio Hand Bells
Hand Bells is the latest addition to Spitfire Audio’s wonderful LABS series, and their way of saying “thank you” for a million downloads. It’s a collection of – well – hand bells, like you’d find on the counter at the corner shop to let them know you’re there. And like the other installments of LABS, Hand Bells turns some very simple samples into something quite unique and magic. As a bonus, the plug-in includes vibrato and “ghostly effects”. Hand Bells is available for macOS and Windows as a VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plug-in.
Rast Sound Vos Contemporary
Another great collection of free sounds: Vos Contemporary contains 415 MB of vocals, pianos, strings, textures, and electronic sounds made by sound designer Matthijs Vos. You get more than 150 presets with long shots and patterns, which combine hybrid electronic samples with sounds of acoustic instruments. All you need to do is download it and check it out to see if it suits your taste and style of music. Vos Contemporary is available in Kontakt and WAV formats.
Wusik Software SP22
This week’s post seems to be all about samples, so we’ve included a sample editor, as well. SP22 by Wusik Software is a sample recording app / plug-in, that lets you record, edit, loop, and play back audio. It runs stand-alone or as a plug-in inside your DAW. The large display shows you the waveforms of your samples in great detail, almost like an oscilloscope. SP22 is open-source software, so you can download and manipulate the source code if you’d like. Most users will be fine with installing the Mac (stand-alone, VST2, VST3, AU) or Windows (stand-alone, VST2, VST3) versions.
