My Highlights: Best Guitar Gear 2024
Can you believe it? All twelve months gone in a flash. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were getting excited about this year’s NAMM in January.
Over this year, we’ve covered hundreds of products here at gearnews. Some of which have caught my attention more than others. What really sticks out to me are the ones that I could actually see myself using either on stage or in the studio.
So, let’s glimpse over my best guitar gear from this year.
Fender Mustang Micro Plus
Starting us off as we look at my best gear from 2024, we’ve got this personal headphone amp from Fender. A revision over the original unit, combining practicality and value.
What do I like about the *Fender Mustang Micro Plus? Well, the fact that it costs a little over £100 / €100 makes it tremendous value. Moreover, there are 25 amp models, plus 25 digital effects!
Despite the impressive credentials, this is a wonderful practice tool that’ll allow you to jam out for 6 hours at a time. As long as you’ve got a decent pair of headphones, I can’t see what’s wrong with this little gem.

Blackstar HT-5R MKIII Combo
After you’ve practised in silence, it’s time to take to the stage with our next product. For gigging guitarists who need a reliable unit that supports their pedalboard, this Blackstar combines modern features with legendary tube technology.
Now, I know that you might think that 5 watts is a bit weak. However, I’ve found that for live shows, you really don’t need a loud back-line if it’s going straight into the desk. Therefore, this twin-channel tube combo is an ideal stage solution.
We’ve got Blackstar’s patented ISF technology, and basic controls for reverb, bass, treble, mids and gain. Plus, that all-important XLR output for live use. And for the purists, it’s nice to know you’ve got twin ECC82 power tubes helping you along.

Martin D-200 Deluxe
Our next contender for 2024’s best guitar gear actually comes from 2017. However, we covered this in the summer and I’m still laughing about the price.
So, what’s the story? Well, Martin partnered up with watchmaker Roland G. Murphy to mark their two millionth serial number since D-200 production began in the 1800s. You get exquisite materials such as an Engelmann spruce top and Rio rosewood back and sides. But, it’s still pretty ugly if you ask me!
Hilariously, they’re asking *£127,000 / €149,900 for this limited model. But it’s okay because you do get a free RGM watch which is bespoke to the guitar! The best part? Collectors will pay the price.

Sheeran By Lowden Stadium Edition
From one bank-breaking guitar to another. This replica of Ed Sheeran’s stadium acoustic guitar isn’t cheap, but it is an important product in our look at the best guitar gear of 2024.
Sheeran isn’t exactly George Harrison or EVH, but nonetheless could be responsible for inspiring a new generation of players. So for that, you have to give him credit. Limited to 150 units worldwide, this George Lowden-built, *custom-bodied guitar is an exact replica of what Sheeran uses for his stadium shows.
Complete with rosewood back and sides and an ebony fingerboard. Thankfully, there are other models in this series that are much more affordable. Any tribute artists around, these guitars are for you! However, I just couldn’t bear to play C, Am, G and F on something which commands such a premium price.
Zoom MS-200D+
For our final look at my best guitar gear, we’ve got this multi-effects pedal from Zoom. Offering over 160 effects for an admirable price. Plus, a cool colour changing display!
Offering players fuzz, distortion, boost and more all within this colourful little box. The dot matrix LCD display shows you 164 Zoom original effects. Moreover, there are 36 emulators of classic tones from throughout the years.
An ideal bedroom jam weapon, we’ve also got a built-in tuner, and you can power it via two AA batteries as well as your typical 9V power cable. I probably wouldn’t use this to gig with, just because of how many drives it has etc. Although to accompany some mindless pentatonic backing track noodling, it’d be my first choice!

So, those were some of my favourite releases of this year. Sure, there may have been some more game-changing products from the last twelve months. But, these ones caught my eye and if I had the budget, I’d happily use all of them day to day.
The countdown is almost upon us… Happy New Year! We’ll see you on the other side.
