Bitwig Studio 4.1 lands, with eight new Note FX and more
UPDATE: Bitwig has now released Bitwig 4.1 as an official version. This update comes with no less than eight new Note FX, which raises the total to 20. Bitwig 4.1 also includes some workflow improvements and other updated features.
Bitwig Studio 4.1
Let’s take a look at the new Note FX first. Bitwig has come up with some very cool ideas here, which can serve as a source of inspiration for your tracks.
Ricochet treats notes like bouncing balls in a room. When they collide, the respective notes are triggered again. The position determines the timbre and panning. Humanize adds a layer of randomness to the bouncing, while Quantize takes care of the rhythm.
Dribble also features a bouncing motion, but in a different way. The notes keep bouncing until gravity finally takes over. There’s a random option, here, too. For example, Randomize changes the pitch. Strum does exactly what you’d expect and strums chords with adjustable precision.
Bend creates slides from one note to the next, while Repeat retrievers every note using the “Burst” or “Euclid” patterns.
The new note effects look like awesome tools for experimental composition and can help you come up with new ideas. With a total of 20 effects, Bitwig Studio offers a comprehensive toolkit for generative music. Along with the new Note FX, the 4.1 update includes 70 new presets to get you started.
What else is new?
In addition to the new Note FX, Bitwig has reworked some of the older ones. Multi-Note continues to create chords with up to eight notes, but offers the new Change and Spread parameters. Also, the Pitch Enable switch can now be modulated. Note Length offers new velocity capabilities, and Note Filter now has a Reject mode.
There are also new color palettes for clips and layers, and you can even convert pictures into color palettes. Neat idea!
The track MIDI output is now available directly in the track.
The Sampler now offers a Release Chain, where every note triggers an instrument of your choice. This means that you can now import SFZ files with press and release samples.
You can find the full release notes here, in case you’d like to check out all the new features yourself.
