More Information

The AKAI MPC series has been enjoying a cult following for decades and helped shape entire genres of music. More recently, AKAI expanded upon the concept by releasing the MPC Key 61 (read our review here) – the first MPC to feature a keyboard. Although sampling is still their biggest stronghold, modern MPCs are much more than that: Thanks to a growing selection of available plugins, software synths, and sound expansions, you can deck them out with your favorite sounds just like a DAW.

For Black Friday 2024, AKAI Professional is offering fantastic synth deals on the MPC Live II and MPC Key 61 until the end of this year. Both models come with huge software bundles that would cost you up to $1000 if purchased separately.

The AKAI MPC Live II is on sale at Thomann* for $966 / £899 / €1059. If you purchase the portable MPC by December 31, 2024, you’ll receive the Producer Bundle for free (a $700+ value). In addition to Jura, Air Flavor Pro, Soft Clipper, Flex-Beat, 808 Sub Factory, and MPC Stems, the bundle includes several MPC Expansions.

Moog’s semi-modular synths are an excellent way to get your feet wet in modular synthesis – and a great addition to any modular system. For Black Friday 2024, Thomann has slashed the prices of three Mother-series synths.

The newest of the bunch, the Moog Labyrinth, marks a departure from classic East Coast terrain – an unusual move for Moog. With a complex oscillator, a wavefolder, and a pair of generative sequencers, it’s an excellent introduction to synthesis ideas of the West Coast. The Labyrinth is on sale* for $579 / £548 / €649.

Studio Electronics SE-1X 2019: A Modern Classic

More Information

The Studio Electronics SE-1 / SE-1X has been delivering classic Minimoog sounds in a rackmount format for years and has become a classic in its own right. However, Studio Electronics didn’t stop at giving the SE-1X the three oscillators and 24 dB ladder filter of the original. With an additional SEM-style filter, a ring modulator, and no less than four envelopes and three LFOs, the SE-1X packs quite a bit more synthesis power than the original. Oh, and it’s also got patch memory, which is a life-saver for any busy producer.

The Studio Electronics SE-1X 2019 is on sale at Thomann* for $1999 / £1880 / €2222.
