The new Blackstar HT Club 40 MkII 6L6 comes with 6L6 tubes in the power section instead of the standard EL34s. Read on to find out how the company has updated one of its most popular combos.
Blackstar HT Club 40 MkII 6L6
Blackstar has reimagined its popular HT Club 40 amp to include 6L6 power valves. The company describes the new HT Club 40 MkII 6L6 amp as having “glassy clean tones, crunchy overdrives and smooth mid-range.” The 40 Watt combo is driven by two ECC83 tubes in the preamp section, a pair of 6L6s in the power amp, and comes with a single 12” Celestion Seventy-80 speaker.
Four Voices
The amp has two channels and four footswitchable voicings: Clean Voice 1, Clean Voice 2, OD Voice 1, and OD Voice 2. These are a clean American and British voicing, a classic overdrive, and a modern higher gain overdrive, respectively.
Other controls include the company’s Patented ISF (Infinite Shape Feature), an onboard digital reverb with a dark/light switch, and a speaker emulated output with both 1×12 and 4×12 voices. There’s also a 10% power reduction facility, if you need it.
Around the back you’ll find an effects loop with an effects level switch, and a handy USB output for recording.
The amp is a nice variation on the company’s super versatile 40 Watt valve combo and should be able to cover a wide range of sonic territory. You can check out the official demo below video to hear the amp in action, or follow the link to read its full specifications.
