Boss ME-90B: After guitar comes bass
If you’re a Boss fan and you’re wondering whether you’ve heard of an ME-90 somewhere before. You did! It seems pretty common in stringed instruments that the bass version comes later. So, here is the Boss ME-90B.
This bass multi-effect and stomp modeler in one contains a whopping 61 effects from the world of popular Boss effects. A looper with up to 38 seconds of memory is also integrated. In addition, You can choose between ten preamp models. Boss created these using their proprietary AIRD technology.
Regarding I/O, the ME-90B offers a mono input and a stereo pair as outputs on the rear, plus an XLR output for feeding directly into the PA. There is also a USB-C port for connecting to a PC or Mac. They have also added something special: you can use the blend knob to mix the dry bass signal with the one modified by the effect! You can now get the Boss ME-90B multi-effect from Thomann*.
Boss Katana-500 Bass Head: Transistor top with Boss effects
The Boss Katana-500 Bass Head delivers even more bass and pressure than the Boss ME-90B. The manufacturer has integrated 60 effects, including dedicated controls for Comp, Drive, Blend, and FX. In addition, a powerful 500-watt Class D power amplifier pushes, scratches, and amplifies under the hood.
A note-worthy feature is the so-called “Cab Resonance” technology. It is designed to automatically adapt to any speaker cab connected to the Katana-500 at the touch of a button. In terms of connections, there is a mono input on the front, two Speak-On outputs for different impedance values (4 Ohm and 8 Ohm), an XLR output for the line signal, two inputs for additional foot switches for changing presets and parameters, and a USB-B connection. This is a bit too retro, if you ask me.
Seriously, why didn’t they go for the future-proof USB-C? In addition to the Boss ME-90B and the Katana-500, Boss also released a bass cabinet today: a 1×12″ cab with a Lightweight NeoDymium Speaker. The Boss Katana-500 Bass Head is available at Thomann*, and the Boss KTN-C112B Bass Cabinet is also available at Thomann*.
