BOSS BP-1W
BOSS has announced the latest Waza Craft BP-1W Booster/Preamp pedal and it combines two vintage preamps. They are taken from their CE-1 Chorus Ensemble and RE-201 Space Echo effects units.
Secret Sauce
Both of these had variable analogue preamp circuitry which guitarists loved, as it added a great tone to the instrument. Now, the BP-1W can add these two preamps to your guitar tone. Plus, it also features a third mode that provides a pristine clean boost to push the volume without any colouration.
Controls
It really couldn’t be much simpler. The Gain knob offers a range of saturation and drive tones unique to each of the modes and the Level knob allows the user to balance the preamp output, or can be used to push the front end of an amp.
Vintage Buffer
The BP-1W also features high-quality buffer circuitry with two selectable types available. Users can access it via the rear panel switch and it provides access to the pure signal of a standard buffer or a vintage buffer with lower input impedance.
Vintage has a warmer tone and a smooth dynamic response, which suits a guitar fitted with passive pickups. It really shines when a guitars is directly fed into the BP-1W’s input. Whereas, the standard buffer is always engaged for signal conditioning when the pedal is bypassed.
Availability & Price
This latest Waza Craft made in Japan pedal is due out in November 2023 and has an official MSRP of $169.99. It offers some nice vintage voiced preamps and that vintage buffer setting could also be quite useful.
