Bright Sparks: Tom Oberheim
A new episode of Bright Sparks shares the story of electronic instrument pioneer Tom Oberheim available free via GForce Software TV YouTube channel.
Tom Oberheim
This episode of Bright Sparks is essential viewing for anyone with an interest in synthesizers. Oberheim synthesizers are some of the most well-regarded and sought after instruments of the past 50 years and have undoubtedly shaped the sound of decades of music. Last year GForce Software released their homage to the classic 8-Voice Oberheim synthesizer and this has enabled them to spend some time with Tom in order to make this film.
Tom is such an important part of electronic music history, and given the instrumental version of I Monster’s bright speaks album features a bonus track dedicated to him, his lack of inclusion in the original documentary always felt like a major omission. I’ve always wanted bright sparks to be an ever-evolving project, so I’m thrilled to document his fascinating story with a dedicated chapter.
Dave Spiers, Bright Sparks producer and co-founder of GForce Software Ltd.
Bright Sparks has taken on other luminaries such as Bob Moog, Alan R Pearlman, Don Buchla, and Peter Zinovieff and is building into a fabulous resource for any synthesizer enthusiast.
