Bring balance to your tone with the new Kiesel Jason Becker Yin Yang signature model
Inspired by Clapton's "Blackie" Stratocaster
Kiesel Guitars has recently collaborated with Jason Becker to create his “dream guitar”, the Yin Yang signature model. Inspired by Eric Clapton’s “Blackie” Fender Stratocaster, the guitar not only looks amazing, it also has some very well-balanced design choices.
Kiesel Jason Becker Yin Yang signature
The new Kiesel Jason Becker Yin Yang signature model was designed by Becker himself and looks stunning. He was inspired by Eric Clapton‘s famous black and white Stratocaster, affectionately nicknamed Blackie. The guitar uses elements of Yin Yang, the Chinese philosophical concept of balance. This dream guitar has some seriously nice hardware and design choices you won’t find on any other Kiesel Guitars models. And I personally think it looks ace.
Mahogany & Maple
The guitar has a traditional S-style bolt-on design with a slightly tweaked body shape, and finished in an eye-catching black and white Yin Yang influenced design. The mahogany body is paired to a quarter-sawn maple neck, with a 24.75″ scale-length neck. The neck also features a two-way adjustable truss rod and dual carbon-fibre rods for strength, so this neck is not moving. The roasted maple fingerboard has a 14″ radius and 24 jumbo stainless steel frets. You also get black-ring Luminlay Super Blue glow-in-the-dark side dots. The reverse headstock is finished in black with the Kiesel logo in white. Overall, these are some great tonewood choices and should offer some nice and round tones.
“Although I love the meaning of unity/duality in the yin yang symbol, my desire was to design a guitar like this came from my love of Eric Claption’s ‘Blackie’ guitar.
“This yin yang design of mine was meant to capture the look of Claption’s ‘Blackie’. To me, every line and curve is beautiful. I worked really hard on getting the perfect balance of black and white and artistic movement.
“I am so grateful to Kiesel Guitars for bringing my design to life.” – Jason Becker
Hardware and Electronics
Hardware includes a Floyd Rose locking trem system, plus a set of Kiesel locking tuners, so tuning so should be easy, and once bedded in, rock solid. The pickups comprise of an M12SD bridge humbucker and a Mark’s single-coil in the neck position. These are wired up via a five-way pickup selector, and master volume and tone controls.
It is a lovely looking design and I’m guessing it will sound as good as it looks. The guitar seems well-thought out and has great hardware and design choices. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the Yin Yang models will go directly to Becker to help finance his high medical costs. Which is great, as Jason Becker is not only a phenomenal musician, he has given so much to the world of guitar. I’m looking forward to hearing players making music with this new model.
