Burls Art Coloured Pencil Strat: Yes, a guitar made of pencils!
YouTuber Burls Art has used 1200 colouring pencils - to build a Strat
YouTuber Burls Art is into making stuff out of other stuff. By that I mean that he uses alternative materials to build things. This time we have a Strat-style guitar – made out of coloured pencils!
Coloured Pencil Strat
This unique guitar is made from lots and lots of coloured pencils, the same type you used as a kid. These are then set into an epoxy resin to form a workable block, which in turn has been cut down to a guitar body.
It took 1200 coloured pencils to build this guitar. And it looks really impressive, though I am sure it will weigh quite a bit. Burls Art then sprayed five coats of enamel to keep the whole thing intact and ready to rock. You can follow the whole process in the YouTube video below.
Crayola Tone
I had a quick look at another piece on the Burls Art YouTube channel. A snowboard made from gaffa tape. Whatever next? A drum kit made of margarine tubs or perhaps a 100-Watt valve amp stack made of old cornflakes boxes?
With all those coloured pencils for tone, you could play some Jimi Hendrix Rainbow Bridge tunes on this Stratocaster and live out a psychedelic dream of swirling shades and hues.
Either way, I was very impressed by the guitar and think it is certainly worth all the effort, as it looks amazing!
