Catalinbread Epoch Bias & Soft Focus Gold 2024 Updates
Two new updates to Catalinbread effects
The Catalinbread Epoch Bias and Soft Focus Gold pedals have been overhauled for 2024. Adding more useful features and a new look for the two effects.
Catalinbread Epoch Bias
First up is the revamped Catalinbread Epoch Bias, which updates the Epoch Boost and adds more functionality to the pedal. They are based on the Maestro EP-3 Echoplex‘s preamp section and offer added warmth and character.
New Preamp Controls
Catalinbread has added a new bias control that allows the simulation of the behavior of out-of-spec components, along with a new filter control, which offers a mixture of the sound characteristics of the first 100 and late EP 3 models. Both are excellent additions to the circuit and valuable for anyone searching for that old preamp tone.
Catalinbread Soft Focus Gold
Next is the newly updated Catalinbread Soft Focus Gold, and this pedal has also had an aesthetic overhaul with a new subtle gold-on-black style. It upgrades the look of the Soft Focus pedal and still has that handy Mix control. The classic Shoegaze reverb sounds of the Yamaha FX500 rack units inspire these pedals.
Upgraded Preamp
They have also added a better-sounding preamplifier and addressed the previous bypass with the signal loss issue of those old effects racks. It’s a nice upgrade over the original Yamaha rack unit, and it looks a lot nicer in this newly updated finish on the pedal.
