Catalinbread Sinkhole – Ethereal Reverb with modulation
Sinkhole a modulated reverb pedal
The Catalinbread Sinkhole offers a harmonically rich “hole” reverb with modulation. Making it potentially their most ethereal reverb to date.
Catalinbread Sinkhole
This new Catalinbread Sinkhole could be described as a modulated reverb effect, yet it goes a whole lot deeper than this. By combining chorus it manages to go straight into ethereal reverb territory and therefore it could be great for ambience, textures, and shoegazing.
Chorus
It has a deep four-voice chorus, equipped with a feedback control and a high-cut filter. Which helps users sculpt the depths, and go deeper. It straddles everything from comb filtering to pseudo-phaser to haunting auto-filtering, according to Catalinbread.
The ‘Verb
The reverb section consists of fairly familiar controls, including a mix for the standard wet-dry blend, vol for setting the overall effect level, and finally verb, which acts like a dual gain and mids control, feeding a variable amount of signal back into the circuit, enhancing the midrange.
Combine this with those chorus controls and it can all get pretty wild, which is exactly what you would want from a reverb pedal like this. As ever Catalinbread has made the controls easy to navigate and therefore it should be simple to dial in and get creative with.
Bypass Options
Users can opt for either buffered bypass or true bypass via a switch inside the pedal. It ships in buffered bypass mode as standard. It requires a negative tip power supply, rated between 9 and 18 volts DC, and with at least 100mA of current.
The video demos below give a good indication of what to expect, and I can see it appealing to a lot of creative musicians, as it does that ‘stretching reverb trails weirdness’ thing nicely. This is a pedal for lovers of ambiance and synth pad-style textures.
