Cort AB850F Acoustic Bass – Low down and natural
A new keenly priced acoustic bass guitar
The new Cort AB850F is loaded with a Fishman ISYS + EQ and comes in at a very reasonable price point for such an instrument.
Acoustic bass
Acoustic bass guitars are on oddity as the low frequency doesn’t tend to travel in quite the same way as an acoustic guitar, so getting them right is a bit of an art. Cort has chosen spruce for the top wood and this is a good start for such an instrument, as it is generally perceived to be one of the better timbers for acoustics, then the backs and side are mahogany. The AB850F is a full-sized, deep bass guitar and they use scalloped internal x bracing under that spruce soundboard to amplify those low strings.
The construction coupled with the Sonicore pickup and onboard Fishman ISYS + EQ should give you a good all round bass tone. The Fishman also has an onboard tuner and phase switch, the EQ section is a two band affair and should be enough to get your basic tone where it needs to be live.
A 34″ scale length neck with 22 frets meets a Venetian cutaway on the main body, this should hopefully allow better upper fret access for when you want to get up the dusty end.
Each guitar comes with a gig bag included in the overall price and I have found that generally Cort guitars can be pretty good instruments. I am not really a huge fan of acoustic bass guitars myself, so it’s hard for me to be subjective, as I never play them personally. But if you are in the market for one then the AB850F is very keenly priced, has a nice clean simple finish and does include a decent Fishman preamp /Sonicore pickup combintation for when playing gigs.
