Cort Artisan Space 5 Bass: 80s Headless is back
This Cort Artisan Space 5 Bass is a throwback to the 1980s headless design the company used for its Space line. Now, it is back from out of space and ready to get down.
Cort Artisan Space 5 Bass
With its headless design and five strings, the Cort Artisan Space 5 Bass would always stand out from the crowd. It has an aesthetic appeal for fans of the headless ’80s basses and enough modern styling to catch the eye of players looking for a contemporary design. This headless design utilises Steinberger-licensed tuners to get away with no headstock.
Updated Artisan Bass Series
A maple body is topped with a 6mm poplar burl top, available in two finishes, Star Dust Green and Stardust Black, and an updated take on the Artisan Bass Series, borrowing its body and neck design. The seven-piece roasted maple, walnut, Purple Heart, and maple bolt-on neck utilises a zero fret to accommodate the lack of a headstock and comes with a spoke nut truss rod adjustment at the heel. It has 24 frets (plus the zero fret) and abalone dot markers.
Bartolini
A pair of Bartolini MK-1 pickups and an active 3-band EQ preamp power this model, and they are controlled by volume, blend, treble, middle, and bass knobs. This setup gives players a vast array of tones, which should be enough to cover a lot of ground. If you need a versatile bass, then this is it.
Verdict
The price point is only $799.99, which is impressive considering what the Artisan Space 5 offers. Many players will enjoy the comfort of deep body sculpts, and the versatile active EQ will be beneficial. However, it probably won’t appeal to vintage bass fans, as it is a little too modern-looking and has that super clean, precise bass tone.
For the money, this 5-string bass has a lot to offer and could be an excellent tool for any bassist who needs to cover a lot of tonal variations—making it perfect for both live and studio duties.
