The Covenant: Atmospheric sound generator drone synth delay machine
Resonance Circuits is the home of bespoke synthesizers, sound generators and effects boxes. They put together extraordinary machines of musical noise and manipulation. They tend to be one-of-a-kind and auctioned off on eBay. The Covenant is their latest creation and is a beautifully made atmospheric sound generator drone synth delay machine built into an adorable little case which could keep you busy making horror movie soundtracks for hours.
The Covenant
Combining electro-acoustic elements, sound generation and delay effects to create a very tactile instrument of mayhem. By plucking, stroking, tapping and strumming all sorts of sounds evolve and swell and it feeds through complex waves of modulation.
The main physical features are the kalimba keys, two lengths of suspended springs, and a windable music box. The electrickery behind the panel provides a custom delay engine. You can control the depth and number of repeats. There’s a lot of feedback manipulation, freezing and spacing. Two brass contacts on the panel invoke feedback swells when both are touched. There’s a jack input for guitar, microphone or line level sources and you can mix between internal and external sounds.
This particular piece is currently on eBay for £275 with one bid and will finish tonight. They have a handful of other handmade noise making devices for sale including a “Disturbia”, a “Nucleus” and, my favourite, the “Plague Generator”. They are constantly building and releasing interesting boxes for sale so your best bet is to follow Resonance Circuits and Facebook and see what develops.
