Cre8audio Assembler: At Last, the Perfect Mixer for Your Desktop Synths?
Compact 10-Channel Mixer for Desktop Synths and Drum Machines
Cre8audio Assembler is a compact 10-channel mixer designed explicitly for synths and drum machines. Offering plenty of versatility and analog mojo, is Assembler the mixer for portable desktop setups we’ve all been waiting for?

There’s still a surprising lack of suitable compact mixers for portable synth setups. Most conventional small mixing consoles from Mackie, Behringer and the like aren’t ideal, as they always seem to have too little of what you need and too much of what you don’t. The new Cre8audio Assembler seeks to fill that void. If you’ve been waiting for a compact mixer for your volcas, desktop synths, drum machines, and (semi-)modular gear, this looks like it’ll fit the bill nicely.
Housed in the same Eurorack-compatible enclosure as the company’s East Beast and West Pest synths and the brand-new Boom Chick drum machine, Assembler fits right in with all your desktop gear without taking up too much space. And according to Cre8audio, it does a lot more than just mix and sum your signals. Thanks to analog circuitry developed in collaboration with Pittsburgh Modular, Assembler is a character mixer that can add a good helping of tasty saturation and punch to your mix.

All audio inputs and outputs are on mini jacks, so you won’t need to fiddle with adapters to connect your small desktop synths. There are ten input channels in total, divided into three categories. The first two channels are complex mono channels equipped with vintage-inspired 2-band EQs (±15 dB) and two Aux sends, one of which can be assigned to either Aux 2 or 3. Channels 3 – 6 also offer two sends, but no EQ. The two stereo channels (7/8 and 9/10) offer one assignable send each.

All inputs are equipped with preamps capable of up to 20x gain boost, so you can easily match line and modular levels or drive the signals into saturation if desired. All channels also have 3-stage LED level meters and illuminated mute buttons. The mono channels are of course equipped with pan pots.
Furthermore, Cre8audio Assembler offers three post-fader Aux buses, which you can use to create sub mixes or loop signals through external effects. Aux 1 and 2 have stereo returns, while Aux 3 offers a mono return, all with mute buttons.
In addition to the main stereo output, Cre8audio Assembler offers a separate Cue and headphone output with independent level control. The mixer supports Eurorack and line levels. If you wish, you can take it out of its desktop enclosure and add it to a Eurorack system, where it takes up 40 HP of space.

Mixer is pretty nice, and cheaper than the Oto Bebe. However, mini 1/8″ inputs require that people who are not into Eurorack, Roland Boutique and Volcas add €5-10 per input and output for new cables, which is another €100-200 on top.
For the same price of this mixer you can get a Zoom Live Trak L6, which has the same footprint, 1/4″ sockets, more features and also 10 channels (2xMono, 4x Mono/Stereo).
