Crusher-X Granular Synthesizer gets overly familiar with MPE
Accsone has announced that their Crusher-X version 7.1 granular synthesizer virtual instrument now supports MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE).
Crusher-X MPE
Developed with ROLI, makers of the Seaboard MPE controllers, Crusher-X is embracing all 5 dimensions of this expressive technology. Get your fingers in there wobbling and sliding to push grain density, pull in distortion or take chords into different places. Generators are created in pairs for each MPE voice and then pitched individually. It’s really interesting to watch the tutorial video and see how the grains respond to the controls and how things develop. Crusher-X is an unusual instrument with many dimensions that fit perfectly with the sort of control MPE offers.

I don’t claim to fully understand what’s going on with this VSTi other than it’s a sound designers wet dream. Combining it with an MPE controller is going to take a lot of the legwork out of designing sounds. Instead, they just seem to flow from experimenting with capturing different parameters.
Crusher-X is €189 for MacOS or Windows or you can download the demo for free just to see if it’s your kind of thing.
