Danelectro launches three new models – Happy 60th Anniversary!
60 years of Danelectro guitars - groovy!
Danelectro has just announced three new guitar models for this year. One of the models is being released to celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary – the DC59M. The other two models are the 12-string DC59X12 and the 50s-inspired DG64XT.
DC 59M NOS + Metalflake
This special edition commemorates the 60th anniversary of the classic flagship model of Danelectro. This new model includes a NOS + Lipstick single coil pickup and an adjustable wraparound bridge.
The striking double-cutaway Shorthorn body shape has been retained, but with two glistening colours: Deep Blue Metalflake and Silver Metalflake. I am not a fan of the stacked EQ (especially volume down and tone up). Nevertheless, this guitar is definitely an eye-catcher and will appeal to those looking for an instrument with a retro vibe.
RRP – EUR 499 (affiliate link)
DC 59X12
With 12 strings for extra full chords, this guitar has a P-90 single coil on the neck and a double lipstick humbucker on the bridge. The latter also has a useful coil tap function. The model is available in black, cream and dark red. I think the controls here are a far more manageable: Volume, Tone (Push / Pull), 3-way switch.
RRP – EUR 519 (affiliate link)
DG64XT
The body shape of this guitar is referred to as Reversed Double Cutaway Offset Horn and comes in a Dark Aqua finish . The oblique pickups against the guitar’s offset design is little strange, but if it sounds good, then I could live with it.
Like the first two models above, this guitar has a frame and centre block made of poplar, while the top and bottom are made of Masonite. You also have a Maple neck, Pau Ferro fretboard, P-90 on the neck, Wilkinson tremolo.
It certainly is an oddball looking guitar, but in the right hands I’m sure it will look cool.
RRP – EUR 599 (affiliate link)
You can hear these new models in action below in the demo videos, and make sure you check out the full specifications on the Danelectro website below. I think they offer some interesting takes on the Danelectro formula and I would like to try a some out when they start hitting dealers – these look like fun to play!
