Daredevil’s Cocked & Fearless wah filter and drive pedal released
Cocky new boutique overdrive and wah circuit combined
Daredevil Pedals’ new Cocked & Fearless pedal combines drive with a wah filter effect, attempting to achieve those cool ‘cocked wah’ overdrive tones without the hassle of a wah pedal.
Cocked
The term cocked wah refers to using a wah pedal as a filter, leaving it in a certain position to create a more nasal, filtered guitar tone without the usual funky quacking you would associate with a wah pedal being pumped in time to the beat.
With its own two-channel op amp based drive circuit onboard, you can create some pretty classic guitar tones for rock and blues. But the amount of gain on tap can probably also take you into more high-gain territory if required.
Fixed
The fixed wah tone has its own footswitch to engage it, kicking in to give your guitar’s sound that nasal cocked twang. The advantage here is that normally I would have to engage my wah pedal. While pushing it down to swithch it on, I get a very treble heavy tone before I can find the sweet spot that I want to leave it in.
With the Cocked & Fearless Daredevil have built a way around this problem. I have been guilty of using my wah pedal like this for years and so I can definitely see the advantage of this as a package combining that wah sound with a built-in drive section.
Drive let down
Having listened to the official demo video below, I wasn’t immediately enamoured by the drive tone. This is where it falls down. But your mileage may vary so, of course, you might love the drive tone. You can blend in as much or as little of each effect, so you could probably dial down the drive, and just use the wah section perhaps.
Of course, if this is something you are in the market for then make sure you check out the Electro-Harmonix Cock Fight, which does similar in terms of functions and price.
