Once again, it’s nice for the bass players to have the spot light. The vast majority of boost pedals on the market just distort your sound, and has a habit of making things sound cheap and nasty.
This new pedal hopes to blend Darkglass’ harmonic booster with unmatched control and frequency adjustments. Complete with parallel compression, players will be able to make use of a 6 band EQ to totally transform their boost.
I like that we have a FILTER control for adjustable lowpass, whilst also being able to adjust the amount of compression applied via a COMP control. Moreover, the MID GAIN knob allows for an additional 20dB over your signal chain, whilst being able to adjust the mids from 250Hz to 2.5kHz. So, you’re always in control.
Connectivity
Despite the impressive controls, the inputs and outputs have been designed to aid added versatility. This Luminal Booster comes with your traditional 1/4 inch jack ports, benefiting also an AUX input for jamming with your favourite tracks.
There’s also full digital connectivity via a USB-C port to go via your smartphone or DAW. Let’s say you want to take this gigging? Well that’s cool too. We can use a ground lift cab simulator thanks to twin balanced XLR direct outputs. Therefore, you could just go straight into the desk at your next show.
Pricing and Goals
Darkglass will be listing the Luminal Booster ULTRA for bassists at $499 / £373 / €448. Which, to be honest is pretty steep. Although, if you’re just looking for a clean and sophisticated unit to elevate and purify your sound, why look anywhere else?
Their managing director, Marcos Barilatti says that the Luminal Ultra ‘marks our entry into new sonic territories, in our search to connect with jazz and clean-tone bass players on a deeper level…’
