Dean adds two new models to its Icon Select lineup
Dean Guitars has introduced two new models in its Icon Select series. The guitars feature a new hardtail design and an arch-top, and come in two finishes. But how do they fare with other guitars in this price-range? Read on to find out.
Dean Icon Select
Both the new Icon Select models from Dean Guitars have tight-grained mahogany bodies with a nice carved top contour. The Flame Top Ocean Burst has a nice flame maple top, whereas the Classic Black has a solid mahogany top instead. They both have a 24.75″ scale length and a three-piece mahogany set-through neck, with a 12″ radius ebony fretboard and 22 jumbo frets.
The Tune-O-Matic style bridge is paired with Dean’s Cadi hardtail, while the tuning machines are a set of Grovers.
The guitars come loaded with a Seymour Duncan APH1 Custom Zebra in the neck position and a matching Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom Zebra in the bridge position, which are then wired via single volume and tone controls through a three-way switch.
Made in Indonesia
To keep costs down, the guitars are made in Indonesia and should be available at your local dealer for a good price.
Although these new models seem to have all the right hardware and a good choice of tone woods, they will face a lot of competition at this price point. Having said that, I think you still get a lot of guitar for your money here. And even though I’m not massively into that headstock shape, if they feel and sound good, I could live with it.
You can check out the guitar in action in the official demo video below.
