Dr No Effects’ Colossus pedal: The art (deco) of octave fuzz and gritty boost
Dr No Effects and Ruben Block get down and dirty together
Dr No Effects has teamed up with Triggerfinger’s Ruben Block to create this dual effect that mashes up an octave fuzz and a gritty boost. Enter the Colossus!
Colossus
The Colossus itself looks lovely, with sort of a retro art deco styling. I think the layout looks clean, and it seems easy to see what’s going on.
Sure, it may look pretty. But this box can get ugly. In the way you want an octave fuzz and booster to react. This is almost the perfect combination for someone like myself, as I like the gritty tones that Ruben is getting in the Colossus promo video below.
Controls
The Colossus has volume, tone, bass and gain knobs. Add to that the lever on the side for two gain steps and the Octavia volume, so a pretty well laid out little control section and I would imagine you can easily tweak it to taste without having to study a manual.
This is my type of pedal, as I love a raw sounding primal fuzz/boost and well, you can never have enough octave effects at your disposal, so I would be happy being left alone with one of these to play around with when coming u with new riffs and song ideas.
The pedal is shipping at the end of March and is available directly from Dr No Effects site. Personally, I think the pricing is spot on for a boutique pedal with two distinct effect sections, plus it looks very pretty too! I would love to hear some demos of the pedal by itself, so I could hear some different tone settings with it, but if it sounds like the recording below then I would be happy to pull the trigger on buying one.
RRP – EUR 276
