Dreadbox Nyx Reissue: The Fun Paraphonic Analog Synth Is Back in Kit Form
The semi-modular Nyx Reissue completes the trio of Dreadbox re-releases in Eurorack-ready DIY kit form.
The Dreadbox Nyx Reissue has the same duophonic oscillators, dual filters, wild modulation and ridiculously lush reverb as the original – and in a Eurorack-ready, USB-powered form factor.
Dreadbox Nyx Reissue
Last year, Dreadbox reissued two of its analog synths, Erebus and Hades, as Eurorack-ready kits. Now the Greek company has added the much-desired Nyx to that list of re-releases.
Based on the circuits of the v1 version (and not the v2), the Dreadbox Nyx Reissue lets the duophonic analog synth live again and now in a Eurorack-ready format that’s also USB-powered.
Deep Synthesis
The Dreadbox Nyx is a fan favorite not only for its warm analog sound but also its quirky synthesis architecture. If you’re unfamiliar, the Nyx features two oscillators that can be run in monophonic or duophonic modes (making it paraphonic). Each oscillator has two waveforms and separate glide controls, plus there’s sync and pulse width modulation.
The Nyx also sports dual state variable filters of 24 and 12dB/Oct with lowpass, highpass, even and odd modes.
There’s unusual routing for the oscillators and filter also. You can send both oscillators to filter 1, split them between the two, route them both to filter two, or bypass the filter entirely.
Modulation, Patch Points, and Reverb
The modulation colors outside the box as well, with three loopable envelopes, each with rise and fall settings. There’s also a triangle LFO for vibrato.
Did I mention that the Nyx Reissue is semi-modular? How careless of me. Well, it is, with 18 patch points including separate filter ins, a noise generator and MIDI in.
Lastly, there’s that reverb. The new Nyx boasts a seriously lush reverb that coats everything in a glorious, velvety sheen.
Price and Availability
Dreadbox Nyx Reissue is available now from Dreadbox for €270 as a no-solder DIY kit.
The Erebus and Hades reissues are still available from Thomann*.

One response to “Dreadbox Nyx Reissue: The Fun Paraphonic Analog Synth Is Back in Kit Form”
Great to see this! This is Dreadbox’s most creative and interesting synth, I would say. Takes a bit to understand the logic behind the signal flow and building patches, but WAY worth investing the time. Does some seriously cool stuff and sounds great as well.
