Dream Studio Guitars are based in California, USA and have just released the The Sparkler Alain Johannes Signature Model. This new guitar is based around an offset Jazzmaster-style instrument and owes its birth to an Instagram incident!

Allegedly, Alain Johannes started following Dream Studio Guitars on Instagram a while back and this led somehow to him getting his own signature model with the company. A neat way to get a customised guitar!
It’s based upon a Jazzmaster and if you saw Alain on tour with PJ Harvey last year you may have seen him onstage wielding a similar Troy Van Leeuwen Fender signature Jazzmaster for some of those dates. I reckon it may have rubbed off on him a little, and now he has his own Jazzmaster-style guitar.
Of course, you may also remember Mr Johannes signature fuzz pedal by Dr No Effects from last year, which featured a lot of symbols and references to his late wife. This new guitar also has a symbolic touch and if you like Alain and his music you will spot a reference in the fret inlays.

Construction
The guitar is a 25.5″ scale length with a hard rock maple neck, rosewood fretboard with custom Alain Johannes “11” inlays. The alder body is chambered, with some interesting sound holes on the top front side of the guitars front.
Pickup wise it has a set of wax potted humbuckers, a Seymour Duncan Jazz SH-55n in the neck with matching Seymour Duncan SH-55b in the bridge position. These can be coil tapped via slider switches above each pickup and you also get a traditional three-way toggle switch for choosing the pickups.
A set of 18-1 vintage style Kluson tuners are fitted to the headstock. A vintage Jazzmaster vibrato and a Mustang-style bridge take care of holding it all down on the body.
The finish is a very nice-looking Sunburst, with the pickguard offered in brown tortoiseshell which suits the overall aesthetic nicely. This new guitar is already sold out, so hopefully, they will make another run very soon!
