EarthQuaker Devices and Wata team up for new Hizumitas Fuzz Sustainar
Recreation of the Japanese alt-rock icon's favourite Elk BM Sustainar
Boris guitarist Wata and EarthQuaker Devices have collaborated together to release the new Hizumitas Fuzz Sustainar pedal. It is available in either a standard or a limited edition version, which comes with the band’s latest single.
EarthQuaker Devices Hizumitas
The new EarthQuaker Devices Hizumitas Fuzz Sustainar is a recreation of the Japanese alt-rock guitarist’s favourite Elk BM Sustainar (a Japanese remake of the Triangle Big Muff Pi). According to the company’s website, the Hizumitas is a pretty faithful copy of Wata’s go-to distortion. The pedal should be perfect for adding low-end dirt to your guitar, bass or synth.
Counterclockwise Tone
You get three controls for Volume, Sustain and Tone. The unity on the volume control is at around 10 o’clock. The Sustain knob sets the amount of fuzz/drive. And finally, the Tone control boosts your bass frequencies when turned clockwise, or your highs when turned counterclockwise.
Versatile Fuzz
To sum up, I really like this pedal’s voicing and can see it being practical for many applications. If you listen to the main demo you can also hear it being applied to bass, synths and drums. So it could be a great little studio tool as well.
Limited Edition
There is also a limited edition run available via Reverb with black silkscreen artwork instead of purple, along with a silk pedal bag, an autographed Boris poster, and a copy of the band’s new single, Reincarnation Rose 12″ blood-red vinyl. You can hear the pedal in action in the official demo videos below.
