EHX Lizard King – Awesome New Bass Octave Fuzz
Electro-Harmonix (EHX) has just revealed the new Lizard King Bass Octave Fuzz pedal, due in July. It improves their Lizard Queen fuzz’s low-end compatibility for bass guitars.
Lizard King Bass Octave Fuzz
The Electro-Harmonix Lizard King Bass Octave Fuzz pedal takes the Lizard Queen design and makes it bass-friendly. This allows those octave fuzz tones to work perfectly with low-end and provides a new clean blend control that helps keep the bass punching through.

Lizard Queen
The Lizard Queen was initially designed in secret by Josh Scott of JHS Pedals as a loving tribute to the historic sound and design of the iconic Electro-Harmonix effects of the 1970s-1980s. It caused quite a stir with a limited-run ‘Big Box’ 70s-style version and a standard modern compact edition still in production.

Blend It
The new additional Blend knob keeps the attack, low-end, and punch while still adding a layer of fuzz for more depth and texture. Then the Octave knob dials in the amount of octave fuzz blended into the signal. Finally, the Tone knob acts as a low-pass filter.
Sun / Shadow Switch
This model also features the Sun / Shadow Switch, which allows users to adjust the character of the octave fuzz. Sun boosts the octave fuzz with more midrange, adding extra treble and low-end to the clean tone. Shadow maintains the clean tone, keeping it uncolored and tightening up the fuzz character.
Power Options
The Lizard King can be powered by a standard 9V battery (included) or an optional 9V power adapter. It is also a pedalboard-friendly true bypass design.
Verdict
I can see this new bass version of the Lizard Queen being popular. It adds that clean blend, making it much more versatile and perfect for bass, down-tuned guitars, and standard electric guitars. The pedal can do subtle low-end growl and vintage full-on fuzz that can get pretty wild.
Pricing and Availability
The pedal has a suggested MSRP of $129 and is due out in July. Not long to wait, and it looks like it could be a very popular fuzz, as it is so versatile.
