Electro Harmonix Battalion: A mini bass rig in a pedal
A new multi effect bass preamp
Electro-Harmonix have launched the Battalion Bass Preamp and DI, which incorporates a lot of handy tools for your bass, all wrapped up in a fairly compact and pedalboard friendly unit.
Squeeze
The Battalion preamp and DI pedal should be ideal for both recording and live scenarios as it features a 4-band EQ section, distortion, a noisegate and a compressor. All this can be fed through either a jack or a balanced XLR output as well, making it ideal for many bass rigs.
Analogue
A distortion section has controls for Level, Blend, Drive and Tone, as well as its own dedicated footswitch to engage it. The “fully-featured” MOSFET distortion section can be set to either pre or post that 4-band EQ section, and the EQ can also be made to affect only the dry signal mixed in with the Blend control.
The one-knob compression is engaged with a dedicated push button, but it should be enough to add some punch and definition to your sound. The simple Noise Gate only has an adjustable threshold control, making it simple to operate but handy to have onboard (especially with distortion and EQ).
The DI has its own dedicated controls for Level and Bypass as well as a ground lift. Combined with that balanced XLR output I mentioned earlier, it should make for a versatile ‘mini-rig’ for many bass players. The price includes the dedicated EHX9.6DC-200mA AC adapter as well.
Battalion is analogue throughout and manages to cram a lot into the size, with plenty of useful tools onboard for sound shaping.
RRP USD 147.80 inc power supply
