About a year after the launch of Digitakt II, Elektron has released the OS 1.10 firmware update for the sampling drum machine and its sibling, the Digitone II FM synth. Both machines receive some important new features, some of which were “borrowed” from each other.

Elektron Update: New Features for Digitakt II

Adding to the existing filter options, the Digitakt II receives the Digitone’s Comb+ filter, which opens up new sound design possibilities with its metallic and resonant sound.

Stereo sampling was one of the biggest selling points when the Digitakt II came out. However, many users complained that the mono sampling option was dropped altogether. Well, it’s back! As of OS 1.10, the Digitakt II can once again also sample in mono.

Moreover, you can now insert the distortion and base-width filter before or after the other filter machines for added flexibility. Another new feature carried over from Digitone II is key tracking as a modulation source.

The Digitone II gets a new chord mode for generating chords with a single finger or MIDI note. By adjusting parameters like Chord Root, Chord Center, and Chord Spread, you can generate chords of varying complexity. In addition, there’s a new Chord Memory function for storing up to 16 chords for use in patterns.

While Overbridge still isn’t fully available for the Digitone II (bummer!), at least we get one of its most important features. Starting with OS 1.10, Digitone II can stream its tracks separately to your computer via USB. According to Elektron, full Overbridge compatibility will be available soon; the plugin is reportedly in the beta testing phase.

In addition, the Digitone’s arpeggiator gets a new Rotate function for creating new sequences from existing patterns.

Elektron Update: New Features for both Machines

Furthermore, the Elektron update adds a host of new features to both the Digitone II and the Digitakt II. Track Swap lets you swap two tracks including all their settings, presets, and sequences. According to Elektron, this helps to organize your tracks and prepare for live shows. The new “P-lock to active trigs” function lets you quickly edit all active trigs. There’s also a new overdub function for recording new notes on top of existing trigs without overwriting them. Other new features include a metronome shortcutkit previews on Digitone II, a new velocity curve for Digitakt II, as well as GUI and performance enhancements.

The Elektron update for Digitakt II and Digitone II is available now. As usual, Elektron has also released a new version of Overbridge (2.18).

Its always the same with Elektron they make their devices at the beginning intentionally weak and than slowly over the years they implement features so that everyone can praise their updates. One example, when they copy features from one machine to another they dont need to write any new code. We live in a programming world that is now driven by AI its not that hard anymore to code something new.
