Enter the Jetta, the most affordable Dr Z boutique amp to date
Dr. Z has announced a brand new combo, the 30-Watt Jetta, touted as its most affordable hand-wired amp model to date. All the tone, they say, just without the high boutique price tag.
Dr. Z Jetta
The Jetta is a hand-wired 30-Watt combo made in Cleveland, OH. It certainly is a neat, streamlined package making it interestng for those who gig a lot or looking for a quality amp to use at home or in the studio. A 1×12 combo, the Jetta comes in at around 34 pounds, so it certainly isn’t a beast to lug around. Bonus.
Dr. Z describes the Jetta as having a “thick overdrive at a controllable volume level”. This amp derives its tone from a pair of 7591 power output tubes, three 12AX7 preamp valves and a 5AR4 rectifier. You still get the high-end boutique Jupiter capacitors, a Heyboer power transformer and a Triad output transformer. So even though it’s offered at a lower price point, you still get all the good stuff with the Jetta. The combo is fitted with a single 12″ Celestion H30 speaker.
Simplicity
This amp has a Volume, Tone and Master Volume on the front panel. Be prepared to do some tweaking (in a good way) to dial in your desired tones. I’m a huge fan of simple control layouts with guitar amps, so this looks like heaven to me.
Metro Zero-Loss
I like that the Jetta includes Dr. Z’s Metro Zero-Loss FX loop circuit. This is supposed to let you use all your favourite pedals without losing any of that tube amp tone. It just makes this little combo even more flexible and means that you can easily fit it into many different scenarios, as you can add a touch of reverb or perhaps delay when needed. Certainly one to watch, especially at this price point!
RRP – USD 1399 due out 7 October
