[March 5, 2024]The Epiphone DG-335 Dave Grohl signature model is finally here, after nearly a year of speculation as to when it was due out. Based on the Foo Fighter frontman’s main Gibson model with its Pelham Blue finish and distinctive Trini Lopez styling.
Epiphone DG-335 Dave Grohl
This highly anticipated Epiphone DG-335 Dave Grohl signature model is out today. It looks like it will offer Foo Fighters fans a chance to get a guitar that looks like the real thing. This is a semi-hollow body design and has those distinctive bound diamond-shaped F-holes, a Trini Lopez-style headstock, and Gibson USA Burstbucker pickups.
It is a major release for Epiphone as Dave is such a well-known and much-loved musician and so I can see these selling out very quickly. He has been seen playing the Epiphone version live with the band on many occasions, so the hype for this guitar is already huge.
Trini Lopez
The 335-style body is made from a traditional maple/poplar laminate and it comes with a one-piece mahogany neck with an elliptical profile. It has a laurel fretboard and split diamond inlays with 22 medium jumbo frets and a Graph Tech nut. Then the Trini Lopez-style headstock is fitted with a set of Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners. The hardware is all nickel and includes a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and stop tail bar.
USA Burstbuckers
The big upgrade for this model is the set of Gibson USA Burstbucker humbucking pickups. With a Gibson USA Burstbucker 3 bridge pickup and a Gibson USA Burstbucker 2 neck pickup. These are wired via a traditional twin volume, dual tone, and a three-way selector switch. Epiphone is again using CTS Potentiometers, Mallory Capacitors, and Switchcraft jacks for the wiring so it is all decent quality hardware.
Verdict
A great looking guitar in that Pelham Blue finish and the price also includes a hard case. Making this signature Epiphone model a good buy. Especially, for Foo Fighters fans, as it is far more affordable than a US Gibson model with similar specifications.
