Joe Bonamassa 1963 SG Custom
The Epiphone Joe Bonamassa 1963 SG Custom signature model is the latest release from the blues guitarist and one of many releases he has done with Epiphone.
Dark Wine Red
It comes in a nice Dark Wine Red finish which is a rare custom finish for a 1963 SG Custom and was a special order originally.
Though, this is. of course, a modern-day recreation, so try not to get caught up in all the hype/marketing.
The guitar has a solid mahogany body with a glued-in mahogany neck with a typical 24.74” scale length and a 12” radius ebony fretboard.
The neck has a ‘60s profile SlimTaper C so should be pretty comfortable to play.
It also is an SG Custom so has a single-ply binding on the fretboard, along with five-ply binding on the headstock, and split-diamond inlay.
ProBucker
This model comes with three Epiphone ProBucker humbucking pickups wired using CTS pots and Mallory capacitors, plus Switchcraft output jacks and switches.
Maestro
Hardware includes a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge fitted with nylon saddles paired with an Epiphone-branded Maestro Vibrola, and a set of Kluson Waffleback tuners All the hardware is gold plated.
The guitar comes in a custom hard-shell guitar case and certificate of authenticity.
Verdict
Whether you like Joe Bonamassa or not these Epiphone models with his name on them tend to be very nicely put together and come with some great hardware choices, plus a hard case.
Which makes them good value for money normally. Though a regular US-made Gibson SG Standard is currently the same price.
Therefore it may be a stretch to choose this time over an American-made guitar.
