Epiphone Waxx Nighthawk Studio – Twin humbucker model?
New signature Nighthawk with Probuckers
This Epiphone Waxx Nighthawk Studio signature model adds standard humbuckers to the Nighthawk design. The French YouTuber and guitarist Waxx finally gets his new model in Pelham Blue released, which has been available as a pre-order since November 2023.
Epiphone Waxx Nighthawk Studio
The Epiphone Waxx Nighthawk Studio comes in a Pelham Blue finish and is fitted with a pair of ProBucker humbuckers. This model of pickups is a little bit of a letdown compared to the more specific slanting bridge models of previous Nighthawk releases, normally paired with a mini humbucker in the neck position. For example, the 2021 Nancy Wilson model is a good example of this.
YouTuber
Waxx runs the largest French-language YouTube channels for guitar with almost 400,000 subscribers. So he has a large following and so this guitar already has an audience. Though I had not been aware of his music before this release.
Construction
This new Nighthawk has a mahogany body and a rounded C-profile mahogany neck, with an Indian Laurel fretboard. It also comes fitted with a Graph Tech nut and string-through-body hardtail Nighthawk bridge.
Controls
The control layout is simple and consists of volume, and tone control with push/pull functionality to switch to single-coil mode on both pickups, plus a three-way pickup selector switch.
Verdict
It all looks quite cut down and utilitarian, which isn’t a bad thing, and many players will probably like that Pelham Blue finish. Though they do include a set of Waxx stickers and a blank 2-ply Bell Truss Rod cover the Case. Therefore, it could be customised a little.
