Erica Synths Black MIDI-CV v2: 2 channels of MIDI for your Eurorack
Erica Synths have released a new and updated version of their MIDI-to-CV converter module. The Black MIDI-CV v2 is efficiently thin at 6HP, simple and yet has some cool hidden depths.
Black MIDI-CV v2
You stick MIDI into the 5 pin DIN and you get CV and gate out of the patch sockets – easy. But there’s more to it than that. This has two sets of CV/Gate and so can respond on two MIDI channels. But rather than just being two channels of monophonic conversion it’s also able to emulate duophonic behaviour.
In “1 voice” mode the second set of CV/Gate copies the output of the first set. This gives you the ability to play two oscillators together in unison from the one MIDI keyboard. In “2 voice” mode the Black MIDI-CV module starts to work as a classic duophonic synthesizer. The first CV output has the lowest note priority and the second CV output has the highest. The second gate output continues to copy the first one.
The “MOD” modulation output is set by default to respond to a MIDI keyboard’s modulation wheel. But this can also be mapped to key velocity. The big knob sets the glide for both MIDI channels simultaneously up to 2 seconds. Finally, there’s a MIDI clock output with 4ppq resolution.
At €155 plus VAT, it’s a decent price for a competent module in classic Erica’s Synths style. More information including a manual can be found on the Erica Synths website.
