Erica Synths EDU DIY Output module: Line and headphone output
The latest educational DIY module from Erica Synths and Moritz Klein is the humble Output module. It provides line level and headphone output for better integration into your existing system.
EDU DIY Output
Erica Synth’s educational DIY series has built an entire modular system month by month over the past year. We’re coming to the end of what has been an amazing saga of getting to grips with circuitry and signals. This is the penultimate module and leaves just the Wave Folder to complete the system.
The Output Mixer makes room for two independent inputs with level control and panning. At the bottom, you’ll find the outputs with both phones and line output. So in this project, we’ll be looking at how we build a circuit to pan a signal between the left and right channels. And also, we’ll be getting into amplification to boost the level of the headphones.
Each kit comes with a manual that details exactly how to put the module together. But more importantly, it includes a step-by-step guide of building the module out on a breadboard in order to fully understand the circuit.
I’ve learned so much through the building of this series of modules. Each one I’ve built first on a breadboard and then soldered together as a finished module. And each time, I’ve live-streamed the experience so that other people can build along or have a reference build to refer to when you get around to building yours. At €50 ex VAT, it’s a very cost-effective way to build your own modular synthesizer.

Here’s an example of a previous live stream. I’ll tackle the Output Module in a week or two.
