All About Erica Synths PERKONS HD-01
Erica Synths PERKONS HD-01 Firmware Update 1.2
The Erica Synths PERKONS HD-01 gets even more versatile with the firmware update 1.2. The most important new feature: for the first time it is possible to replace the factory samples of the Rompler engine with your own samples. The samples must be stored as WAV files in mono and 48 kHz / 16 bit on an SD card and named according to a specific scheme. The total size must not exceed 256 kB. When booting, the PERKONS loads the samples into the 3rd algorithm of VOICE 4. It is now also possible to change the sample start point in the Rompler engine.
Another important new feature is the BBD delay, which can now be synchronised to the clock. Another new feature is the ability to rotate sequences. And with the Channel Mute function, you can now choose to mute the triggers and sound or just the triggers.
The update is available for download from the Erica Synths website.
The Erica Synths PERKONS HD-01 is available from Thomann*.
Back In Black!
After the initial batch sold out almost instantly, Erica Synths have brought back the black design and now it’s a permanent fixture in their catalogue. Rejoice!
[28 April 2024] A few weeks ago, Erica Synths announced a super limited Black Edition of their popular Perkons HD-01 Drum Synthesizer. Demand was so huge that as soon as it went on sale, it sold out instantly! So quickly that by the time we were ready to go press, they’d all gone and we had to pull the article!
But don’t fret if you think you missed out because, due to issues with the original blue paint used, Erica synths is bringing the black model back and this time it’s here to stay!
Erica Synths say it will cost the same as the original HD-01 and should be available very soon! You can pre-order it now via our affiliate partner. Don’t forget to pick up a Decksaver to keep your new black PERKONS pristine!
PERKONS HD-01
I got the Thunder bit right from my thoughts on the leaked photograph but was wrong about it being named after a 1980s Latvian rock band. But that takes nothing away from this dramatic looking drum machine, synthesizer and percussion performance station. PERKONS looks the business.
Update: Here’s a full 5-minute demo from Hainbach:
PERKONS features four hybrid voices made up of a digital sound engine, analogue filter and overdrive. Each voice has 3 sound engine modes with 8 knob controls over the parameters including filter and FX send. There’s a built-in LFO with morphable waveforms, an analogue BBD delay circuit with send and return for each voice and an optical compressor. Each voice also has a velocity-sensitive trigger input, individual output and effects send/return on grown-up jacks. At the end of the chain is a master overdrive.
For sequencing the 4-lane sequencer gives you simultaneous control over all 4 voices. There are 4 tracks with 4 time divisions and 4 times multiplications per track. Each step can have ratchets and probabilities and there are 4 shuffle algorithms. There’s also MIDI in/out.
