ESP has revealed the LTD Bill Kelliher BK-600 and Sparrowhawk signature models for the Mastodon guitarist at NAMM. These models both come in Vintage Sunburst and feature his new Mojotone signature Hellbender humbuckers.
Vintage Silver Sunburst
Both the new LTD Bill Kelliher BK-600 and Sparrowhawk signature models are now available in a Vintage Silver Sunburst finish for 2023.
These guitars both feature a Thin U-neck contour fitted with 22 Xtra Jumbo frets and a set of ESP’s Pearloid flag inlays for the BK-600 and Pearloid block inlays for the Sparrowhawk.
The BK-600 offers set-thru construction with a 24.75” scale length, a mahogany body, a bound three-piece mahogany neck, and a Macassar ebony fretboard.
Whilst the Sparrowhawk is based around a mahogany body with a maple cap, plus a three-piece mahogany neck with a Macassar ebony fretboard.
Hardware for the guitars includes a set of TonePros Locking TOM and tailpiece that allows for easy string changes and stable tuning, plus a set of LTD locking tuners.

Hellbender
Each model is fitted with the updated MojoTone Hellbender humbucking pickups, which replace the previous Seymour Duncan Distortions of the previous incarnations.

Singlecut vs Reverse Firebird
The ESP Eclipse-style BK-600 offers a modern single-cut style guitar, whilst the Sparrowhawk is more of a tweaked Gibson Reverse Firebird-style body shape.
Mastodon is famous for its tight heavy riffs and leads, therefore you can easily work with either of these models to achieve that style of heavy tones.
Verdict
I would guess that Bill’s new MojoTone signature pickup set will be a large part of that tone.
Playability from ESP/LTD guitars is well-regarded and so they should both be great instruments. Personally, I really like this new Vintage Silver Sunburst finish and think it will appeal to a lot of guitar players.
ESP also has a new ESP and an LTD model for Metallica’s James Hetfield being shown at NAMM, so it’s a good year for well-priced signature models.
Both models come with an ESP deluxe hardshell case included in the price.
