[28 February 2025] FabFilter has updated the popular Pro-Q 4 equalizer to version 4.02, adding some important new features and bug fixes. Especially interesting is the extension of the new Spectral Tilt function, which can now be activated per band (!). The result is even more dynamic and organic sounding corrections, especially in complex mixes. FabFilter also includes the usual bug fixes and an updated version for iOS.

Pro-Q 4.02 Update: FabFilter Improves the Best EQ
Another adjustment concerns oversampling while in Character Mode. When the EQ is in Linear Phase Processing mode, the oversampling is now fully processed in linear phase. This allows even more precise editing of fine nuances without introducing phase shifts or unwanted artifacts into the signal. FabFilter has also improved the copying and pasting of EQ bands. Bands pasted within the same instance are now given a small frequency offset to better distinguish them from the original.
In addition to these improvements, Pro-Q 4.02 also brings long-awaited AUv3 compatibility for iPads. This means that EQ Sketch and the Instance List can now be used on iOS. Pro-Q 4 runs in all AUv3 compatible apps including Cubasis, Logic Pro, GarageBand and AUM. This extension brings a professional workflow to mobile devices, which is especially useful when you’re on the road.
To make the transition from Pro-Q 3 to Pro-Q 4 even smoother, FabFilter has also released version 3.27. From now on, you can transfer presets and current settings from Pro-Q 3 directly to the new version via the context menu. If you have been hesitating to switch to Pro-Q 4, you now have an easy way to transfer existing projects without any loss of quality. The update is now available for download from the manufacturer’s website.

The ‘Best’ Software EQ Just Got Better!
[10 December 2024] Today FabFilter released a teaser video of Pro-Q 4, the new version of their very popular software equaliser. And of course it comes with some new features like dynamic spectral filters, all-pass, (finally) attack and release in the dynamics section, an instance list, EQ sketch, character settings for filters and much more. Wow! That’s quite an announcement. The release date is Thursday 12th December 2024 – unfortunately no price has been announced yet.
FabFilter Pro-Q 4: The New Soothe-Killer?
Since 2018, FabFilter hasn’t released any major upgrades to its already legendary in-house software equaliser, apart from bugfix updates. Now the time has finally come: Pro-Q 4 has been announced for 12 December. And it comes with a teaser video packed with new features. But also the GUI seems to have been reworked. In the video, the interface looks similar to the old one, but really more stylish and professional.
The Pro-Q 4 developer has put a lot of work into dynamic processing. The attack and release controls requested in forums and by users have been implemented. This opens up a whole new range of possibilities for mixing. Great! There is also a dynamic spectral filter that works in a similar way to the well-known mixing tool Soothe 2. Sounds exciting!
Analogue Feel for Digital Mixes
An instance list shows you all the Pro-Q 4 instances used in the song at a glance. And you can even use this view to match filters to other curves! I’m curious to see how well this works in practice. EQ Sketch apparently lets you draw EQ curves that are converted into filters in real time. Very cool!
Another new feature is the setting of the filter character – from normal to subtle to warm. But that’s not all! New filter models have been added, and I could see some buttons and parameter settings on images in the video that I can’t quite place yet. We’ll know more on Thursday! We’ll keep you posted.
