FabFilter Saturn 2: the multi-band saturator gets a big update
FabFilter has announced that it will release Saturn 2 on May 19th, 2020. The newest version of the multi-band saturation plug-in comes with an updated GUI, new distortion and amp styles, modulation visualization, and more.
FabFilter Saturn 2
FabFilter released a video teaser for Saturn 2 on its YouTube channel yesterday, and confirmed the upcoming release in a Facebook post today. We don’t know all the features yet, but the video does contain some cues. Saturn 2 features an updated GUI with a darker look, which looks great in my opinion.
The list of available distortion and amp models seems to have grown by quite a bit. There are various tube, tape and amp simulations, as well as transformer and saturation options. The modulation engine has also received an overhaul. As of now, we don’t know exactly what the new modulation section can do, but the new symbols look promising. In its Facebook post, FabFilter also mentions modulation visualization, which sounds like the effect of each modulator will be easier to see in Saturn 2.
According to FabFilter, Saturn 2 will also feature a linear phase mode and an improved high quality mode.
Saturn 2 looks like a major update of the popular saturation and distortion plug-in. We’ll have to wait for the official release announcement for the full list of features, but what we’ve seen so far looks very promising.
Price and availability
According to FabFilter, Saturn 2 will be released on May 19th, 2020. The company hasn’t revealed the price yet, but at this point, it’ll only be a few hours until we know more.
