Fender Buck Owens Collection: The Country Legends Gets a New Signature
For that extra Twang!
It has been almost 30 years since Fender made a signature guitar for Buck Owens. The Fender Buck Owens Collections is now available with two new signatures. Included are a Telecaster and an acoustic guitar, both in Owens’ signature red, white, and blue color scheme.
Buck Owens – Life of a Country Music Legend
Born in Texas in 1929, Owens found success in the 1960s and 1970s with his “Bakersfield Sound” and also as co-host of the popular comedy show “Hee Haw”. His biggest hit, “Love’s Gonna Live Here”, topped the country charts for 16 weeks.
Owens’ fame and influence were so great in the sixties that even the Beatles covered him in 1965 with “Act Naturally.” Owens also founded numerous companies and bought a radio station, but also repeatedly struggled with health problems. He was diagnosed with cancer in the early nineties, and it would repeatedly come back to haunt him until his death in Bakersfield in 2006.
His influence on American country music was huge. So much so that Fender released a signature Telecaster in the nineties, it has been out of stock for a long time, but now the Fender Buck Owens Collection is back.
Fender Buck Owens Collection: Telecaster with a dashing look
The combination of the sparkling three-color finish on the body and the headstock is insanely eye-catching—that sparkling red, white, and blue finish on the body AND headstock, white binding, and the gold-plated mirror pickguard—it’s just visually stunning.
For the woods of the Tele, Fender uses alder for the body and classic maple for the neck (Late 50s C-profile) and fingerboard (7.25 inches). Plus, the model comes with 21 vintage frets, a synthetic bone nut, shiny gold hardware, and a 3-saddle bridge.
This Fender Buck Owens Collection Tele features two single-coil pickups for plenty of twang: a Custom Buck Owens Alnico 3 at the bridge and a Custom Buck Owens Alnico 2 at the neck. Master volume and master tone plus a three-way switch provide the usual tonal adjustment options. At Thomann*, the Buck Owens Tele costs 1,999 euros. A deluxe black hard shell case with a black interior is included.
Buck Owens Kingsman: Hee Haw vibes for everyone!
In the 1970s, Hee Haw was one of the most successful comedy shows in the United States. Buck Owens was one of the two hosts. Traditionally, both of them played a song at the show’s beginning. And Owens’ three-color steel-string guitar was always there with them.
As part of the Fender Buck Owens Collection, this version of a Fender Kingman is now available to everyone. The dreadnought with a solid spruce top, mahogany sides and back, and Fender’s own Performance X Bracing comes in the same look. The neck (C-profile) is also made of mahogany, with a rosewood fingerboard (radius: 16 inches).
20 frets, bone saddle, Pearloid block inlays – classic features of an acoustic guitar. The vintage vibes are rounded off by the vintage-style tuning buttons in aged white, the rosewood bridge, and the nickel hardware. The acoustic guitar comes with a Fishman Presys VT Plus Soundhole pickup system as the preamp.
This signature costs 789 euros at Thomann*. A custom hard case is included.
