Fender celebrates 60 years of the legendary Jazz Bass with special edition
Released back in 1960, the Fender Jazz Bass is 60 years old this year!
Fender’s Jazz bass, one of the most famous bass guitars in the world, was originally introduced way back in 1960. Making 2020 the instrument’s 60th anniversary! In celebration, Fender has announced a special limited edition run, the perhaps rather unimaginatively named 60th Anniversary Jazz Bass.
Fender 60th Anniversary Jazz Bass
This limited-edition model stays true to the classic offset Jazz Bass design. The main features include everything that you’d expect from a Jazz Bass, including an alder body, a 1960s U-shape maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard loaded with 20 vintage tall frets and white pearloid dots. To my eye, this limited edition model looks spot on. I really love the Arctic Pearl lacquer finish with the four-ply tortoiseshell pickguard. This model also has white binding on the neck and nickel/chrome hardware.
Pure Vintage
On the pickup side, this bass comes factory fitted with Fender’s Pure Vintage ‘62 Single-Coil Jazz Bass pickups, with period-correct covers. These are wired using via stacked concentric volume and tone knobs. It’s a tried and tested setup, so Fender has decided not to mess with the formula. The designers have also used a four-saddle bridge with threaded steel saddles and reverse open-gear tuners.
60 Years
As a limited edition, the model comes with a 60th anniversary commemorative neck plate and comes in a special embroidered case celebrating 60 years of the Jazz Bass. I played the 62 JBASS ,which I purchased in 1963. I loved the sound and action. I used it with
an Ampeg SB-12, for seven years. When I returned from The war I
Found out my big brother sold all
my equipment, which was my fender jazz bass, my Gibson EB-3
a Gibson melody maker . Now that I am a poo disabled veteran
I could just dream of replacing
what was stolen from me.
