Fender Custom Shop x Minions: Masterbuilt instruments for a good cause
Banana!
These four Fender Custom Shop x Minions guitars will be sold in aid of the Fender Play Foundation. Each unique guitar is based on the animation studio, Illumination’s film franchise, which worked closely with the Custom Shop on these bespoke guitars.
Minions
The Fender Custom Shop x Minions consists of four unique models, each featuring characters from the popular Minions movies. The four Masterbuilt instruments include the following models; an electric, a bass, an acoustic and a ukulele. With each model comes. pretty hefty price tag, though the proceeds from the sales are all going towards a good cause, the Fender Play Foundation.
“Banana!” is the catchphrase often associated with these little yellow Minions, and I can remember my kids when they were younger repeating that on repeat whilst getting overexcited and running around like lunatics!
This means that all the money will fund music education programs for elementary and middle school students in Los Angeles.
- StratoStuart, Masterbuilt Stratocaster by Kyle McMillin – $48,000
- Otto’s Moon Bass, Masterbuilt Bass by Ron Thorn – $50,000
- Kosmic Kevin, Masterbuilt Acoustic by Gonzalo Madrigal – $71,500
- The King Bob, Masterbuilt Ukulele by Dennis Galuszka – $50,000
“Our partnership with Illumination is a special one, as both organisations are committed to expanding the equitable access to music and arts education in after-school programs. For more than two years, the Foundation has been offering virtual music classes for Los Angeles Unified School District students, while Illumination has simultaneously been providing LAUSD students with virtual animation classes through their Animation With Illumination program. By joining forces, we have been able to create truly unique musical instruments inspired by Minions: The Rise of Gru, all proceeds of which will help expand access to music education to even more students in Los Angeles.”
Minions: The Rise of Gru
This collaboration should hopefully help raise funds and awareness for this good cause. Obviously, these instruments were all designed specifically to help raise money and so the level of detail is high throughout, and they are each one-of-a-kind.
Would you like to see more animation tie-ins from Fender and do you think you could rock a Minion guitar? Banana!

Look, I didn’t really cringe when I paid A LOT of money for Fender’s limited run of SRV’s Number One. I bought it as a fan, not an investment, although it’s value has quadrupled since then. $50-70k for MINIONS guitars?? Someone at Fender is high.
If I were waiting on a Masterbuilt guitar & found out my builder wasted time on this, furious would be an understatement.
It’s fun but statocastuart would’ve been a better name
That is pure fun! The Moonbass is the one I feel special out of them all. That cockpit canopy with minion inside brings me laugh. He’s there to operate the Moonbass, for sure. Are there any exhaust flow from the pickup cover? Did you check fretboard inlays before flight?
