This pair of  Fender El Mocambo Strat and Tele guitars were created by Ron Thorn. The Fender Master Builder made these guitars using Eastern White Pine. The wood was taken from the famous Toronto club. A club that has played host to the likes of  The Rolling Stones, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

El Mocambo

Fender’s Master Builder Ron Thorn is from Toronto himself. So it was great that he got to create this pair of guitars. Both the models are made using Eastern White Pine. Which was harvested from the El Mocambo club when it was being refitted back in 2014.

Double Trouble

The venue has played host to many great bands over the years.  And many guitar players will know it from that amazing live performance by Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble on the Live at the El Mocambo video. As Stevie is on fire during the performance and the band is just amazing throughout.

The Pair

Both guitars are sold as a pair. With 25 pairs are being made available for sale worldwide. The Strat and Tele each come with a a quarter-sawn, roasted Canadian maple neck. This neck has a ‘59-style D-profile, plus a 9.5” radius, and a flat-laminated African blackwood fingerboard, which is fitted with 21 jumbo frets.

The bodies are made using Eastern White Pine from the club. They had to use a metal detector to locate and carefully remove nails embedded in the wood. Whether they will have the same vibe as the club, I really cannot say. However, the wood looks to be well seasoned and should ring out nicely.

Josefina Campos

The Strats feature the hand-wound Josefina Campos ’69 Strat for the neck, vintage ’65 Strat in the middle and Texas Special bridge single-coil pickups. This is combined with Fat ’50s 1/2 blender wiring,  Whereas the Teles have a Josefina hand-wound Twisted Tele in the neck, paired with a Texas Special in the bridge position.

Palm Tree

Each pair has some cool case candy included in the Custom El Mocambo hardshell case. Along with a strap and a certificate of authenticity. The guitars themselves also have the El Mocambo Palm Tree logo inlaid on the first fret. This is based on the original the massive 22 foot sign that has been on the front of the building since its 1948.
