Fender Japan drops an eye-popping Evangelion Asuka Telecaster!
Limited edition guitar themed for Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0
Fender Japan has announced a spectacular-looking limited edition Telecaster, themed after the Neon Genesis Evangelion character Asuka. The Evangelion Asuka Telecaster has very vivid aesthetics – as you’d expect for an manga-inspired guitar. It will certainly stand out from the crowd!
Fender Japan Evangelion Asuka Telecaster
This is one crazily coloured Telecaster! It’s a limited edition intended for the Japanese market. Based on the Neon Genesis Evangelion character Asuka, the Fender Japan Evangelion Asuka Telecaster has some unusual features – and not just aesthetically. The guitar’s neck plate features a NERV logo etching and the only fretboard inlay is a block-print-style EVA 2 at the twelfth fret.
Alumitone Pickups
The black, neon green and orange pickguard is mounted atop an orange-gradient gloss polyester finish on the body. Your eye is drawn to the Alumitone Humbucker in the bridge and the matching Alumitone single-coil in the neck position of the guitar. These are wired via a standard Tele-style three-way switch as well as Volume and Tone controls.
Black Hardware
The guitar’s hardware is all black, making a nice contrast to the bright finish. To me, it has a really nice overall look – even though it’s so far removed from a traditional Butterscotch Telecaster! The aesthetics will certainly stand out if you take it down to your local open mic night or blues jam!
C.O.A and original artwork
It comes with a certificate of authenticity, plus an original artwork by Rebuild of Evangelion director Kazuya Tsurumaki, featuring Asuka in a ‘plugsuit ‘with the guitar. This limited edition model is set to drop mid-July 2020, celebrating the release of Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0. If you want one outside Japan, you will probably need to find a way to import one and be prepared to pay the import fees.
RRP – YEN 259000

Someone at Fender Japan has been on the crack pipe. Again.
Just say no, kids.
Wow. What a bore…
I’m sure you are a widely-respected arbiter of all that is artistically and aesthetically significant and noteworthy. Alas, beauty is subjective and I have my own opinion of what is good and what is not, which I am free to share. If that triggers you, that’s absolutely fine by me.
That’s fine. You had your word, i had mine. I am free to share my disagreement as well. I wouldn’t personaly buy guitar with this design. But i think that “kids” will choose themselves whenever they should say yes or no… Because beauty is indeed subjective.
I would say you are both right. I myself bought one of these mostly because it doesn’t look like anything else fender. I have a wall of wood grain and pastel colored guitars and finally something came along with some color. Yes, the colors and anime theme may feel a bit childish, but it feels and plays like any other tele.
Unfortunately they are expensive and rare so people who kinda want one won’t bother putting down the cash. For those who don’t like them, your probably never going to see one in a guitar store, so your retinas are safe from this bright and awesome color scheme.
Like or hate it? Its a piece of wood, I don’t think it minds your opinion.
actually very good design, great aesthetic balance of anime and traditional fender guitar .
While Gibson keep making similar looking guitar series every year, Fender really keep moving and stepped in the 21th century
